Jon Herman
National Director of Systemic Disabilities
AJR-262
After military service, Jon was selected as a contract Flight Service Specialist in 2007. This naturally leveraged his Air Traffic Control experience and education. He progressed through a number of positions within the contract and eventually decided Federal Service was the correct move.
Jon joined the FAA in 2015 and has worked in the Strategic Planning Division of the Office of Aviation Policy (APO-400), the Solutions Monitoring and Management Branch (ADE-410) within the Office of Information Technology, and spent the majority of his time with the Air Traffic Organization Systems Operations Service (AJR) in the Flight Service Directorate. Currently, he is a proud team member of the UAS Detection and Mitigation Team (AJR-262) within System Operations Security (AJR-2).
Joining the FAA allowed Jon to discuss his disabilities more openly with his management without repercussion. This led him to learn about the National Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NCFAED). Jon believes in providing advocacy on behalf of others who may not feel comfortable advocating for themselves. Most disabilities tend to be non-apparent disabilities, it is often challenging to provide self-advocacy without feeling like a person is exposing themselves to scrutiny. It is Jon’s goal to provide that advocacy on their behalf to broaden the support and recognition provided to this community.
Jon received a Bachelor of Science in Air Traffic Control from Thomas Edison State University, a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University, and a Graduate Level Certificate in Information Technology from the University of Maryland University College. He is a US Army Veteran who deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004 and a former Air National Guard RADAR Approach Control (RAPCON) Controller. He holds Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) III, FAA/FAC Program Management (PM) I, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. He is also a graduate of FAA’s Program for Emerging Leaders (PEL).
